Trim Enabler 2.2 for OS X Lion, MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite, and OS X Mavericks

Mac users having Trim Enabler can use it on any of the Mac OS X 10.7 or later, it is a must-have feature for most Solid State Drives.
It increases data writing speeds as well as the lifetime of the SSD. With Trim Enabler, you can bring that feature to Mac OS X. It’s as easy as flipping a switch. Trim Enabler is designed by Cindori  Software, they designed to make it easy to enable Trim on third-party SSDs you use with your Mac.

 What is Trim?

Every time you delete a file on your computer, the data still stays on the drive in segments called blocks. These blocks are not deleted until you need to use them again to write new data. Due to technical limitations in the NAND Flash design, only whole blocks can be deleted. This means that when you need to write new data, the SSD must perform time-consuming cleaning and maintenance of these blocks before your data is written. With Trim, your blocks can be cleaned instantly when you delete the data, leading to much less operations during the writing process which gives you better speeds and minimizes the wear on the drive.

Features of Trim Enabler 2.2

SSD Performance Enhancer

The performance of the solid state drive is enhanced by making it writer faster, the increase in writing speed is also coupled with a long-lasting performance and lifespan.

Decongestion and tweaking

It is allows you to free up enough space on your SSD, you can access advanced OS X tweaks to improve your SSD’s performance or free up to several gigabytes of disk space. Trim decongest the SSD by releasing blocks of data that are no longer in use.

Disk Health Monitor

The detailed S.M.A.R.T monitor will provide performance and health relevant statistics and reports about your disks, both Hard and Solid State Drives

Trim Enabler works well on Fusion Drive, and most SSD. For hardware RAID they do not support trim, therefore it does not work with it, however trim in RAID depends on RAID drivers. If you are using OSX software RAID 0 you are fine, most softwares are supported.

 Trim Enabler Pro

The Trim Enabler Pro Version allows you to activate the full version on up to 5 computers, it has the solid state drive performance enhancing features and other locked features.

Guide to enabling Trim in OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 1 using Trim Enabler

  1. Remove your current Trim Enabler and “org.Cindori.AuthHelper” in /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools, and redownload the app

    sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
  3. Reboot
  4. Enable trim using Trim Enabler
  5. Wait ~1 min
  6. Rebuildkext cache manually using this command in terminal (wait for it to finish):
    sudo kextcache -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions
  7. Reboot again

Chameleon SSD optimizer

Like most trim enablers it allows solid state drives to automatically handle garbage collection, cleaning up unused blocks of data and preparing them for rewriting, thereby preventing slowdowns that would otherwise occur over time as garbage data accumulates. Support for TRIM has been included in OS X (10.6.7), but Apple decided that native TRIM support is limited to stock Apple drives (users who have installed third-party SSDs into their machines have reported that TRIM is not enabled). Chameleon enables support TRIM changing the driver IOHACIBlockStorage by removing the lock on third-party drives, also a back up copy is included to restore the original, you can find it at:

“/System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/
Contents/MacOS/IOHACIBlockStorage.backup”

Features:

  • Repair Permissions
  • Sleep Mode
  • S.M.A.R.T.
  • Disable Sleep Image
  • Sudden Motion Sensor
