Recipes in this game are slot based, not fixed lists. Each food declares a set of slots, and each slot accepts any crop from one group. Ice Cream declares a cone slot and a sweet slot, so any cone crop plus any sweet crop produces Ice Cream. Extra crops beyond the required slots add weight and rarity, they do not change which food comes out.
That is why so many published lists contradict each other. They record one worked combination and present it as the recipe, when the game only ever checked the slots. The worked examples above are the cheapest combination two independent sources agree on. Use the crop groups if you want to substitute, and check which crops count as sweet, fruit and leafy before you commit a rare seed to the pot.

- Walk up to your placed Cooking Kit holding the first crop and submit it.
- Submit the second crop. Both appear on the ingredient board.
- Check the timer box, which reads 5 minutes at base weight.

How the cooking mechanic works
- Claim the Cooking Kit from an achievement set in the Garden Guide.
- Open your cosmetics inventory and place the kit anywhere on your plot.
- Hold a harvested crop and walk into the kit to submit it as an ingredient.
- Watch the ingredient board fill as each crop takes a slot.
- Watch the timer box, which rises with the weight and number of crops you add.
- Watch the mutation gauge, which shows the chance of a crop mutation carrying into the food.
- Press the green Cook button to start the timer.
- Wait for the timer, or pay 39 Robux to skip it.
- Collect the finished food and use it for crafting, pet hunger, the Sell Stand or an NPC birthday.
Weight is the lever most people miss. A heavier crop adds time to the pot and raises the grade of the finished food, so a giant crop is worth more in the pot than a second ordinary one. If you are short of crops entirely, the current Grow a Garden codes are the fastest way to top up seeds before you start.

Do Chris P. cravings still work?
No. Chris P. and the craving system left with the Cooking Event, and the Cooking Kit replaced the lobby pot. Any recipe still labelled craving only, or that promises a free one tier upgrade, is describing a mechanic that is no longer in the experience. That is the main reason older recipe lists fail when people follow them.
How do you unlock cooking in Grow a Garden?
You need the Cooking Kit, which is claimed from the achievement sets in the Garden Guide. The Common set is the quickest route, and it asks for ordinary planting, harvesting, shovelling, selling and gifting tasks. Once claimed, the kit appears in your cosmetics inventory and you place it anywhere on your plot.

Food meets crafting requirements, feeds pets to restore hunger, sells at the Sell Stand and is fed to NPCs on their birthdays for rewards.
